Just read: Bitchfest: Ten Years of Cultural Criticism from the Pages of Bitch Magazine. This is one of the best feminist publications because it is observational of pop culture and modern phenomenon and although it informed, it is individual author’s opinions. So in other words, not so academic, intellectual, and overly condescending. This is a collection of some of their best stuff. My favorite essays include: “The Like, Downfall of the English Language: A Fluffy Word with a Hefty Problem”, “Girl Unreconstructed: Why Girl Power is Bad for Feminism”, “Fan/Tastic Voyage” Rewriting Gender in the Wide, Wide World of Slash Fiction”, and “Your Stomach is the Size of a Peanut, So Shut Up Already: An Open Letter to Carnie Wilson”.
